Why did Anthropic refuse to participate in the Pentagon's use cases for Claude?

We believe we must defend our country, but it is not worth defending if we violate our core values. The Pentagon requested two use cases we were uncomfortable with: fully autonomous drone armies and domestic mass surveillance. Because we refused, we could not agree on the contract.
