We are biological creatures designed to live in tight-knit tribes and accumulate resources for our families. Choosing to be poor in the modern era is the equivalent of a caveman choosing not to hunt. If a caveman refused to gather resources, they were banished from the tribe and left to die. Failing to acquire capital is a failure of a core biological principle.
